Out of home advertising, therefore, is on marketing to consumers when they are “on the go” in public places, in transit, waiting (such as in a medical office), and/or in specific commercial locations (such as in a retail venue). Outdoor advertising formats fall into four main categories: billboards, street furniture, transit, and alternative.

National Geographic Advertisements: Exploring Caves in America

Description: The advertisement is located on the bottom of an apartment balcony, this already creates the backdrop needed to insinuate the purpose of the advertisement.   The advertisement has bat like creatures hanging from the bottom of the balcony and a backdrop of the front page of the National Geographic magazine.

Technique used: Wit and humor, the visual affect helps draw attention to the magazine.

 Objectives:

  1. To bring attention to the next magazine from National Geographic.

Target Market: Anyone that likes national geographic magazines or magazines about nature.

Magazine Advertisements

Virtually any medium can be used for advertising.  Commercial advertising media can include wall paintings, billboards, street furniture components, printed flyers and rack cards, radio, cinema and television adverts, web banners, mobile telephone screens, shopping carts, web popups, skywriting, bus stop benches, human billboards and forehead advertising, magazines, newspapers, town criers, sides of buses, banners attached to or sides of airplanes, etc.  Any place an “identified” sponsor pays to deliver their message through a medium is advertising.

Magazine Ad: MJ vs. Isaac Newton

Description: Michael Jordan, in his home uniform, is captured performing a gravity-defying dunk.  MJ’s head is close to the rim and he seems effortlessly about to complete the dunk.  The background is all black with the following words in bold uppercase letters “Michael Jordan 1, Isaac Newton 0”.

Technique used:  The advertisement technique used for almost all of Nike’s product seems to be association.  Nike utilizes famous athletes to market their brands.  In Jordan’s case I believe that both companies profited extremely well for their mutual marketing arrangements throughout the years.

 Objectives:

  1. To build up a brand around MJ’s athletic abilities.
  2. Advertise the Nike as the shoe of choice for Michael Jordan.

Target Market: Athletes, at this time MJs where not such a fashion icon then they are today.

Action for consumers are to go out a purchase Nikes.

In The Past Ten Years, The Internet Has Created An Entirely New Venue For Advertising As Well.  Today Social Media Is Ubiquitous; We Cannot Get Away From The Latest Product Message.  In Addition, The Reason For The Vast Number Of Ads We Are Exposed To Daily?  Ads Are Used To Urge The Viewer To Take An Action Usually To Purchase The Product Or Service Shown In The Ad.  After All, A Company Must Sell Its Product Or Service To Customers In Order To Be Profitable.
This Assignment Requires Us To Select Five (Of Your Own Favorite) Advertisements From Each Of The Traditional Media Outlets: Radio, Television, Newsprint, Magazine, And Outdoor Advertising (A Total Of 25 Ads). Create And Post An Analysis For Each Ad On Your Blog.  Each Of These Five Types Of Traditional Media Outlets Will Be Aligned With A Given Week During This Course

Newspaper Ad: Hardeen Escape Artist

Description: Theodore Hardeen is being drenched in water while in a galvanized cramped in a small iron container and secured with “massive locks”.  One man pours the water in to this container while the two other man, one holding the lid and the other holding the locks, watch with anticipation and concentration.  The ad displays the container when it is covered up and secured to the bottom left.  The bottom text really grab you as it says failure means a drowning death.

Technique used: Labels is used in this ad, descriptive words I think is utilized in many newspaper advertisements.   This ad also uses the emotional appeal in that there is a fear of death for the magician if he doesn’t escape and the only way to find out is to catch the show.

 Objectives:

  1. To build up a magic stunt that has death implications.
  2. Advertise the show at a particular time and location.

Target Market: Anyone that is intrigued by magic tricks or shows of entertainment.

Action for consumers to take is to go to the casino to watch the show.
